"Hall of Fallen Heroes Theme" ( from the Icewind Dale soundtrack 1.21MB)

Within this shrine we pay our respects to those who have fallen for our cause, or for the good of Faerun.

Hrothgar, Guardian of Easthaven

hrothgarportrait.jpg

Born in Hillsfar and an adept warrior, Hrothgar acted along with the local priest, Everard, as the militia of Easthaven in Icewind Dale. A strong heart and will, he fought for the good of his people, and for Faerun. He is sorely missed by us all, and we have mourned his tragic death for years passed. If only he could see what we have erected here today, he would be proud to have comrades that maintained an honourable settlement.

-Lord Myzrael d'Averam

Arundel, Archdruid of Kuldahar

arundelportrait.jpg

Learning the ways and powers of nature and the balance all throughout his youth, this kind man was a welcome sight for a war-torn party of adventurers. He was once a simple druid in service to Archdruid Tolben, his mentor and role-model for years to come. When Archdruid Tolben passed, Arundel took on the title of Archdruid of the great druid shrine and, thanks to the efforts of Tolben, settlement of Kuldahar. He died in peace, knowing that he had saved his village by placing it within the hands of able and courageous adventurers. The people of Kuldahar look to his shrine (erected next to Tolben's) each day with pride in knowing that such a man once served as thier leader.

Vithar Ashgan, Drow Bladesinger of the Seldarine

Vithar Ashgan is not officially deceased, though all signs he has left behind him point to his death. He travelled to Icewind Dale long ago along with Lord d'Averam seeking the archmage Larrel of the Severed Hand to further his studies in magick. When Lord d'Averam's party finally came upon Larrel, he was only a shade of his former self, having been transformed into a Baelnorn. Infuriated that he could not continue his training in magicks as his surrogate father, Eradane of the Forest would have wished, he continued with de Thatre' and d'Averam, and trained them in the intricate fighting styles of the bladesingers. Until the day when the party came upon a thieving drow called Nym. It was as though Ashgan had some connection to him from the past, for they spoke to one another as though they had known one another for years. When Nym boasted of his wicked deeds that caused the fall of Dorn's Deep and the Hand of the Seldarine, Ashgan's mind became clouded with a berzerker rage. Fleeing the battle that would surely end in his defeat, Nym quiffed a potion and levitated down a deep pit within the Svirfneblin refugee camp. Vithar then went on to a nearby merchant and purchased information on the location of such a potion in the camp. He found it, and departed from his comrades down the pit with little more than a nod. Lord d'Averam still waits for his return, and voted against having his memory interred here in this shrine. Though Vithar Ashgan taught Lord d'Averam and General de Thatre' all the basics of the bladesinger fighting styles, they later advanced their skills greatly under the tutelage of a bladesingers shade, within the Severed Hand. It is said that although the shade's skill was excellent, d'Averam was taught his elite fighting styles through meditation training with Labelas Enoreth, elven god of knowledge. None can match Ashgan's might in battle, save d'Averam himself.
